How to create Snapshots and link to bug trackers?
How to create Snapshots and link to bug trackers?
Solution
1. Download and install XpoLog
Download XpoLog from the download section of
www.xplg.com
and follow the installation wizard to install.
Open a browser to the machine you installed XpoLog on, connect on port 30303 (for example: http://localhost:30303/).
2. Add the logs that you would like to analyze to XpoLog
Open a browser to the machine you installed XpoLog on, connect on port 30303 (for example: http://localhost:30303/) and you will see XpoLog's home page.
To add a single log click 'Add and View Log' under More Actions, to add a directory of logs click 'Add Logs Directory' under More Actions and follow the simple wizards to add the logs.
3. Filter the log records that you would like to mark and snapshot
All the logs that are added to XpoLog are available under the Folders and Logs panel on the left. Clicking on a log will present it in a view - browse through the log and use the find/filter to isolate log messages that are relevant to the investigation.
4. Right Click on the log message and select snapshot
Any log message, in any log, that is presented in XpoLog's viewer can be saved as part of a snapshot. Simply right click on each log message and add it to a snapshot. Use the CTRL key to select multiple events and them together to a snapshot. Snapshots may contain unlimited number of message from unlimited number of logs - all presented together and available.
5. Finish recording relevant log messages and create context link to the snapshot or copy it's content
The Snapshots that are saved in XpoLog are available under the Snapshots panel on the left. XpoLog provides several ways to export/link a Snapshot's information, simply right click on a Snapshot and select the method that fits your needs: Export as an archive, Copy to clipboard all the events or Copy Snapshot link to create a link to the Snapshot.
6. Copy the link or Snapshot data and paste it in the bug/defect tracker
Simply paste the link or the copied data to any external system you are using. Clicking on the link will open XpoLog's viewer presenting the Snapshot's log messages.
